On February 9, 2004, the current lake levels were authorized by the Circuit Court for the County of Gladwin. The Winter level, between November 1st and April 15th is set at 813.7 feet above sea level. The Volunteer Operations Team removes wooden boards (Flashboards) in the spillway bays (1-10) in order to achieve winter operation by November 1st. The lake is then allowed to flucuate based on the “run of the river”. The sluice gates do not operate during winter operations except to assure the lake level does not exceed the summer set point during periods of extreme rain or melt.
